MONTEREY CYPRESS (Cupressus macrocarpa)

This evergreen tree grows up to 35m. It has bright green, ropey, cord-like foliage with blunt, scaly leaves. It is columnar when young but spreads outwards and becomes broader with age. Trunk diameter up to 2.4m.

Male flowers are small and yellowish-green and appear at the tips of the branches. Female flowers are light green and near to the branch tips.

The bark is thick, grey and fibrous, streaked with irregular furrows.

The round, scaled cones are 20-30mm in diameter and take 2 years to fully ripen.
